VESTA5: Molly Mahon, Printmaker
Based in Sussex, Molly Mahon is a printmaker whose block print originals are applied to fabrics, wallpapers and homewares. She can often be found in her garden shed at her print table, while nearby her three children and one small dog play or come and print too.
1. If you could own one piece of artwork, what would it be and why?
I am coveting a very large painting by my friend Lottie Cole. She painted all these glorious interiors of Charleston Farmhouse, and has really captured a sense of life and romance of how the Bloomsbury group lived. I especially like View From Bedroom Down to Studio, because how wonderful to have your bedroom connected to your studio! I would love that - although I might never go to bed!
2. What's your biggest extravagance?
BOOKS! I am addicted to books: coffee table books, books on colour, design, textiles, interiors, nature. I have piles of them all over the house and in the studios.
3. What are you most proud of?
Well, it has to be my three children really. They surprise me, fascinate me and amuse me every day. But I am also proud of my little business. This is the second business I have started (the first was events in London). I don't know where it will lead, but I am proud to have given it a go and proud to be following a dream (rather than just dreaming about it!).
4. What do you wish you could tell your younger self?
Believe in yourself and your ideas. Do what makes you happy. You can make any passion into a career if you love it enough.
5. What is your desert island luxury item?
A soft pillow. I can sleep anywhere if I have a decent pillow. The thought of being on a desert island and not having somewhere comfortable to rest my head is too unbearable a thought!
